Shooting local shows is always a special experience. The Baltimore local scene is an unmatched community. But it’s always more special when I get to shoot a friend.
When I was told by my friend Malachi that he was bringing back one of his former bands, Generadio, I was super stoked. I had previously shot one of his other bands, Socc, two days in a row and had an absolute blast. As a cherry on top, the gig was at Morsberger’s - the first venue I ever shot at, and one of my favorites. It’s so intimate and I’ve never been to a bad show there.
One thing that I feel makes local shows extra special is the crowd. I’ve been to a lot of different touring shows where the crowd does not care about the opener at all. They all stand there, waiting for the opener. With local shows, everyone is always super into it. Generadio was the first band on the roster that night, and the crowd showed up.
This was my first time hearing their music, and I was an instant fan. With Logan on lead vocals and bass, Jack on guitar, and Malachi on drums, all the sounds mesh together to make fantastic music. I would describe their vibe as indie rock - great music for a lively local gig. I had an absolute blast shooting them, and vibing to the music.
At one point, Malachi went a little too hard on the drums and actually ended up breaking the snare, his drumstick going right through it. He had to borrow a snare from a drummer from one of the other bands, and I feel like this is a testament to how wonderful and tight knit our local community is.
They ended off the show with their song Ocean, and before they started, they asked how many people in the audience were former members of Generadio. Two people raised their hand, and then were invited to join on vocals and bass. It was super fun to watch them all reconnect and play together. Overall, it was a fantastic show and a fantastic time!
