When you see Silverstein and Story Of The Year announce a co-headliner tour together, you don’t pass it up. In fact, this line-up has been in the works for over two decades, making the Camp Scremo Tour a must-see.

The tour’s final Texas stop was in Dallas at The Bomb Factory on August 2nd, where the crowd eagerly rushed in and filled the space with excitement the minute doors opened. And when the lights dropped and the first opener, Ally Nicholas, stepped on stage, it was like the venue held its breath.

Ally and her band brought Deftones-style rock, with airy vocals that drop into edgy, headbanging riffs. Her songs begin slowly, often with a reverbed guitar playing softly before suddenly kicking on the overdrive and crashing down. Ally stands with her guitar for the first few songs before stepping up onto the speakers and singing her heart out. Her voice is filled with strength and passion as she gets the crowd riled up. We get to hear multiple unreleased songs that have the venue cheering and dancing before her set closes with a bang.

Origami Angel takes the stage next, an electric duo that combines the sounds of pop-punk with the technicality and tone of math rock. Though they’re just two people, their stage presence fills the venue with warmth and energy as they send the crowd into the road of dreamy nostalgia. The guitar riffs are complicated, the drum fills likewise, but both members navigate them with stunning ease as crowdsurfers jump up and are carried to the barricades.

The venue is practically humming with anticipation as Origami Angel step off stage and the crew begins to set up for the third set of the evening, post-hardcore Silverstein. Their visuals certainly lean into the summer camp aesthetic, displaying campfires and a forest background on the screen behind the drum riser. The crowd headbangs and sings as they begin their set explosively.

Around the mid-way point into the set, people begin to notice someone dressed in an inflatable duck costume, who is then placed in the middle of a massive circle pit at the request of the band. Silverstein is relentless with their performance, and the crowd gives right back, shouting lyrics and moshing.

But even after three sets, the crowd isn’t done yet, and they push back with just as much energy when alt-rock group Story Of The Year comes on with their catchy breakdowns and harsh vocals as they perform songs both old and new. The duck returns, crowdsurfing one final time before the set closes out with the crowd singing lyrics back to the band.

Camp Scremo was truly one of those shows that you never forget, with incredible musicianship, a tight-knit community, and just some great music. There are only a few stops left on this tour, but Camp Scremo 2 with Footballhead and Stand Atlantic will be kicking off this November!
